Chess (Chester Cheese) is a young male sweetheart who will make an excellent companion animal for an active outdoor-minded retired or work-from-home household. He loves going for walks in the woods and runs on the beach but is not fond of the car. Chess is fine when left alone in the house (not destructive) but has dug to try to get out of a yard when left unsupervised for too long. Escape artist. He gets along with almost every dog he meets, eventually, and has ended up teaching many foster dogs how to play. He does get cranky and snaps at another dog if they are A) thinking about infringing on his comfortable sleeping spot, B) about to get the attention he thinks is about to be dolled out ie. sitting at person's feet, C) not feeling well, ill, or infirm. He likes to put the chase on outdoor cats but lives with cats inside no problem. He is snuggly and loving and gets under the covers with you at night. Chess can be a barker if there is something to bark at (people walking by or approaching the yard) and can act like a guard dog at times. His bad manners include walking on the coffee table, getting into the garbage, begging for people food, and bad bathroom etiquette on rainy/cold days. Chess is ready for a home full of patience and love for this little dog who was thrown away in California and has blossomed in Canada! Newbark Rescue dogs are spayed or neutered and up to date with vaccines and parasite treatments. The adoption fee of $300 goes directly back into helping more dogs. All Newbark dogs are cared for in Foster Homes. Please email for an adoption application, or for more information.
